Have synod, will travel
by Ana Watts
The dates for Diocesan Synod 2009 are tentatively set, but the location may be up for grabs.
“Synod usually takes place in the city of Fredericton, but it doesn’t have to,” says Archdeacon Geoffrey Hall, Secretary of Synod and chair of diocesan synod planning. “Each town and city in the province is unique, has its own colour and flavour. Synod Planning can imagine a different venue could make synod a different experience for all of us.”

What Do Publishers Mean By "Emergent"?
by Jana Riess, Religion BookLine -- Publishers Weekly, 3/12/2008
I got another one of those press releases today, the kind that hypes a book submission as fresh, edgy and pioneering. Nothing unusual there. Only nowadays, Christian publishers are latching on to a new term for such books, whether or not they deserve it: "Emergent."

"Being a Christian is risky. I know it is not easy to talk to others about investing their money and precious leisure time in the ministry of a parish. I know some people will get angry when we broach the subject, and we will from time to time find ourselves in situations that are very uncomfortable. But it costs money to do ministry, and many Anglicans are not giving enough of their treasure to fund that ministry. We need to take the risk of faith to talk about this reality. We need to search the way we do things and give people better reasons to give."

The rector heartily greeted an Easter-only member of the parish as he left the church.
"Great to worship with you today!" said the rector with a sincere smile accompanying a warm handshake.
"Really?" the man responded.
"Sure. It's always good to have you with us on Easter," said the rector.
The man scratched his head then said: "Well, maybe I'd come more often if you didn't always preach on the same topic!"
