extreme positions in same-sex debate

by Ana Watts

The same-sex issue is fueled by vociferous minorities and few Canadian Anglicans hold these extreme positions, said General Synod Chancellor Ron Stevenson speaking to members of the Anglican Editors Association meeting in Fredericton this week.

Faith, Worship, and Ministry: Facilitators train for sexuality discussions
The Faith, Worship, and Ministry department will soon be organizing discussions on sexuality throughout Canada, as mandated by General Synod 2007. The first step towards the discussions was a facilitator training event, held from May 2 to 4 in Scarborough, Ont. If you are interested in organizing a group, email Isaac Kawuki-Mukasa (ikawukimukasa at national.anglican.ca), new Coordinator for Dialogue. Archdeacon Geoffrey Hall from the Diocese of Fredericton was one of the twenty-four facilitators who participated in the facilitator training event.

As a component of the communication process in the diocese, the diocesan Youth Action Director is compiling an email listing of youth leaders and/or contacts from as many places in the diocese as possible. Anyone who would like to be/should be on this list, please advise George Porter. (george.porter at anglican.nb.ca)

St Paul's Church in Cross Creek is looking for an RSV Bible suitable for the lectern. The Bible is to be a memorial. Many churches in the diocese may have replaced RSV Bibles on their lecterns and in their pulpits in the last 20 years, so perhaps there is a suitable Bible somewhere in a cupboard gathering dust. If you have one, the people of St. Paul’s, Cross Creek will gladly pay full value if it is large, well-bound and in good condition. Contact the Rev. Ranall Ingalls at (ingallsr at nbnet.nb.ca).

The people of the Parish of the Nerepis and St. John/Church of the Resurrection will worship in the Parish Centre in Grand Bay during July and August. Sunday morning service times are 8 and 9:30 a.m. with fellowship following the early service and before the later one.

CAMPS CAMPAIGN UPDATE

With the generous donation of $5,000 from the Parish of Fredericton and several other smaller donations, our unofficial campaign total as of May 9th, 2008 is $667,875 with $332,125 to go. That’s up $48,077 since December 31, 2007.

We need to reach our One Million Dollar Goal to provide Camp Brookwood with the $90,000 we promised them from the campaign in order to help refurbish their infrastructure. Much of that will be needed this summer. And we need $242,125 to pay down the loan we took out to finish the new main hall at Camp Medley.

As Camp Medley and Camp Brookwood get ready for their summer programs, I ask that you keep the camp directors and staff in your prayers and don't forget about our Capital Campaign to provide the infrstructure to keep the camps safe and welcoming places.
