DIOCESAN NEWS

Bishop Inspired by Lambeth

By Ana Watts

“There is no substitute for face to face even when discussing difficult questions.” Bishop Claude Miller came to that conclusion at the Lambeth Conference, a once-a-decade event hosted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.  “What a privilege to be the diocesan bishop at this time in the church's history, not only in our diocese but around the world.”

Your opinion counts in anthem challenge

Ice Time – composed by Michael Capon, is the perfect name for a new theme song for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada. Take a listen to it on the CBC anthem challenge website and give it a good rating – you could help to make it the winning submission.

“Listener feedback counts,” says Michael. “And feel free to pass the link on to others who might like to vote.”

A long-time and very successful former organist and choir director at Christ Church Cathedral in Fredericton, Michael and his wife Ellen moved to Toronto a few years ago where he assumed yet another challenging church organist position. Clearly he also continues to compose.

Good luck in the challenge, Michael!

Do you really care about the environment?

Register today for the 2008 TD Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup of rivers, lakes, streams, wetlands and ocean shorelines. It’s one of the largest direct action environmental events in Canada.

STEWARDSHIP QUOTABLE

"One of the most difficult challenges facing parish stewardship  ministry is encouraging members tomake a formal financial commitment to the ministry of the parish … It helps to explain to people who are reluctant to pledge that a pledge is merely a statement of intent, designed to help parish leadership plan the ministry of the parish for the coming year."

HEAVENLY HUMOUR

A man goes to the local revival and listens to the preacher. After a while the preacher asks anyone with needs to be prayed over to come forward to the front at the altar. He gets in line, and when it's his turn the preacher asks: "What do you want me to pray about for you?"

"Preacher, I need you to pray for my hearing," replies the man.

The preacher puts one finger in the man's ear and he places the hiser hand on top of the man's head, then he and prays and prays.

After a few minutes, the preacher removes his hands, stands back and asks: "How is your hearing now?"

"I don't know," replied the man. "It ain't until next Wednesday."
