New Bright lights for All Saints
Fitting lights for beautiful old church
by Ana Watts
Traditional hanging glass and filigree lanterns cast a golden glow on the wooden pews and kneelers All Saint’s in Keswick Ridge. This 1860s Medley Church on the bucolic Crock’s Point Road, just a stones-throw from the St. John River, is as idyllic as its surroundings. The lanterns look as if they have always hung from the vaulted beam ceiling, perhaps were even converted from gas to electricity there, but that is not the case. They are new. New to All Saints and the Parish of Bright anyway. Read

Response to food crisis in Afghanistan
Huge displacement of farmers and the widespread destruction and lack of maintenance of rural infrastructure over more than two decades of war has created food crisis in the province of Zabul, Afghanistan. PWRDF and other members of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank have responded to this crisis in partnership with the Presbyterian World Service and Development who are taking a lead role for the project. The project aims at alleviating immediate food shortages through food-for-work projects, rehabilitating and developing basic infrastructure to tackle long-term food crisis, and improving livelihoods of community members through improvement in farming techniques. Continuing the St. Christopher's Case Study
"One program that was particularly successful in the early years of the parish's growth spurt was a program called 'Pledge to Yourself.' All membrs of the parish were asked to fill out a pledge card and to send it to the rector in a sealed envelope. They were promised that the envelope would remain sealed and not be opened by anyone. The following October, all households were mailed their un-opened pledge card and invited, in a letter with a statement of year-to-date givings, to open it and see how they were doing against the promise they had made to themselves. This was a highly sccessful and particularly useful way to intriduce pledging in a parish that did not have a culture of pledging.'"
