Prayer for Synod
Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding: be present with those who take counsel at Diocesan Synod in Saint John in June 2009 for the renewal and mission of our parishes, diocese and your Church in this place and beyond. As your disciples, teach us in all things to seek first your kingdom to your honour and glory. Guide us to what is right and grant us both the courage and patience to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

This year World Water Day on March 22 calls attention to the waters that cross borders and link us together.
The world’s 263 transboundary lake and river basins include the territory of 145 countries and cover nearly half of the Earth’s land surface. Great reservoirs of freshwater also move silently below our borders in underground aquifers.

Youth delegation to Burundi
justgeneration.ca and the Diocese of Bujumbura in Burundi were in dialogue for more than a year now about the possibility of building closer connections between youth in Canada and Burundi. In order to learn more about the work of young Anglicans in Bujumbura, a delegation of young people from Canada traveled to Burundi in February. The Diocese of Bujumbura has been a PWRDF partner since 1992, and our work together involves health, primarily in HIV/AIDS, gender issues, and sustainable development.
Simon Chambers, the justgeneration.ca facilitator, traveled with three members of the Youth Council to Bujumbura from February 9-24, 2009. The delegation attended the final day of the Africa Round Table (a gathering of PWRDF partners in Nairobi, Kenya), and then traveled on to Bujumbura to spend a week learning about the work of PWRDF partners in the diocese and specifically about the ministry of young people there. They then spent a couple of days formulating a plan on how to build stronger relationships between youth in Bujumbura and in Canada.

A Statement from Anglican Delegates to the 53rd Session of the UNCSW
Anglican Communion News Service
March 16, 2009 1
This year’s United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) was focused on the priority theme: the equal sharing of responsibilities between women and men, including caregiving in the context of HIV/AIDS. The Anglican Delegates at CSW 53 worked hard to ensure that they took part in all aspects of the two week programme. They were delegates representing the Anglican Communion and supported by Anglican Women’s Empowerment (AWE) and by a worship framework which in itself was challenging and sustaining. Read the story.

Some 45 religious, interfaith, and value-based organizations from five continents agreed to form a coalition to advance a "United Nations Decade for Inter-religious and Intercultural Dialogue, Understanding, and Cooperation for Peace." Coalition members expressed the hope that the UN Sixty-Fourth General Assembly, which will begin its deliberations in September 2009, will approve a resolution establishing such a decade from 2011-2020. "The emphasis placed on tithing may be seen by reading Nehemiah 10:37, 38; 12:44; 13:5 and Malachi 3:8-12. The latter is very strong language. God accuses the people of robbing him by their with-holding of 'tithes and offerings,’ He offers them an abundance of blessing if they would but give him what rightfully belongs to him – the 'tenth' plus their 'offerings.'

A curious fellow died and joined the long waiting line of judgment. As he stood there he noticed some souls were allowed to march right through Heaven’s pearly gates and others were led over to Satan who threw them into the burning pit. Every so often, instead of being hurled into the fire, a soul would be tossed onto a small pile at the side.
The curious fellow watched for a while and finally said: "Excuse me, Prince of Darkness, why do you toss some people aside instead of flinging them into the Fires of Hell with the others?"
"Oh those," Satan groaned, “They're all from the Maritimes so they are still too cold and wet to burn."
