The Forgotten Kingdons
Archives Corner
Most people know that John Medley was the first and longest serving bishop of this diocese. Books, theses and articles continue to be written about him and various aspects of the Medley episcopacy here in Fredericton. Despite the passage of time, the Medley years still arouse scholarly interest. Many people also know that Bishop Medley’s wife’s name was Margaret and while research on her is limited, stories abound. Just recently, the archives acquired its third identified photograph of her. Names of the Medley sons are also familiar. By contrast, other than his unusual name, Hollingworth Tully Kingdon, comparably little is known about the man who shared duties with Medley as coadjutor and became Fredericton’s second bishop following Medley’s death. Read the story.

Prayer for Synod
Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding: be present with those who take counsel at Diocesan Synod in Saint John in June 2009 for the renewal and mission of our parishes, diocese and your Church in this place and beyond. As your disciples, teach us in all things to seek first your kingdom to your honour and glory. Guide us to what is right and grant us both the courage and patience to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

An elderly woman walked up to the door of a country parish church. The friendly sidesman greeted her and helped her up the flight of steps. "Where would you like to sit?" he asked politely.
"The front row please," answered the woman.
"You really don't want to do that," the man said "The rector is really boring."
"Do you happen to know who I am?" the woman inquired.
"No," said the man.
"I'm the rector's mother," she replied indignantly.
"Do you know who I am?" asked the man in turn.
"No." she said.
"Good," he answered.
