Anglican Foundation supports rebuilding of unique Iqaluit cathedral
by Fiona Brownlee
We have all seen an image of St. Simon & St. Jude’s Cathedral –a large igloo shaped building looming over the landscape of Iqaluit, Nunavut– and marveled at how our church fits into such a different place and culture. In the fall of 2005, Anglicans across the country grieved with their brothers and sisters in the arctic when it was announced that a fire damaged the beautiful cathedral church of St. Simon & St. Jude. They grieved even more when they learned that the cathedral would have to be demolished and rebuilt from scratch. The cathedral represented the indigenous culture in which it was situated and had become the home for unique works of art from communities across the arctic. Read the story.

Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding: be present with those who take counsel at Diocesan Synod in Saint John in June 2009 for the renewal and mission of our parishes, diocese and your Church in this place and beyond. Thank You to PWRDF volunteers
Greetings,
This week as Canadian society honours volunteers across the country, we are honouring the ministry of committed Anglicans who contribute to meeting their communities’ aspirations for full life. It is fitting that this time of honour takes place during the Easter feast, a time when we are reminded to “go and tell the story” and also to go and “be” the story. Read the letter.

Is Your Cup Half-Full or Half Empty?
In the Gospel of John, Jesus says, “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly”(John 10:10). Jesus wants us to have an abundant life. God has given us everything we need. We have abundance. But often we talk about what is lacking: there’s not enough money, time, energy or people. Jesus offers us another way of thinking which could be called “Jesus Economics” or thinking in terms of half-full as opposed to half empty. Open- sum thinking as opposed to fixed-sum. Fixed-sum thinking is seeing the resources that are available to us like a pie: there are only so many pieces. If I want to get more pieces out of the pie, I have to cut smaller pieces; therefore each person gets less. Jesus prefers an open-sum viewpoint. If I share my resources with the community and my resources are put together with other’s resources, there are unlimited possibilities to what we can do. Your gain is my gain is our gain. The classic story of open-sum thinking is the feeding of the 5000. God has provided us with more than enough, all we need to do is recognize what we have and put it together with what others have to the benefit of us all.

Three good friends were driving along on the highway one Saturday: a doctor, a teacher, and a lawyer. All of a sudden, a brand-new SUV cut them off. In an attempt to miss the shiny big vehicle, the driver swerved to the left and hit the median. The car flipped several times and all three friends died instantly.
They all found themselves in line waiting to get into Heaven. The doctor asked the others, "Hey, what do you want people to say at your funeral? I want them to say, 'She was a great doctor, and she never let down any of her patients.'"
The teacher said, "I want people to remember me as a great educator, so I would want to hear people say, 'He was a wonderful teacher, a great role model for children, and he changed countless lives throughout his career.'"
Then the lawyer said, "I'd like people to say, 'Look! He's moving!'"
