Nicodemus project launched, time for parishes to act By Jim Morell
“I read what was in the bulletin insert and heard what was said in church, but I still don’t really understand the Nicodemus Project. What’s behind it? What is our parish supposed to do? What can I do?” I heard those words from a friend following the launch of the Nicodemus Project in parishes across the diocese on Jan. 31. I wondered how many other New Brunswick Anglicans were asking the same questions. I hope what follows provides helpful answers. In approving the Nicodemus Project action plan Diocesan Council clearly said “... enduring transformational change must begin with individual Anglicans and parishes. If we are to grow in our understanding of the Gospel and in our ability to proclaim it, and if our parishes are to become stronger and healthier – then individuals and parishes have to assume the greatest responsibility for action and change.” Read the story.

Accuracy of briefing paper on ACNA challenged
by Pat Ashworth
Church Times
Feb. 5, 2010
A senior cleric of the Anglican Church of Canada has identified inaccuracies in Lorna Ashworth’s briefing paper for her private member’s motion, which will come before the General Synod next Wednesday. Similar concerns are coming from the Episcopal Church in the United States. Mrs. Ashworth’s motion will urge the Synod to “express the desire that the Church of England be in communion with the Anglican Church in North America [ACNA}” (News, 22 January). Canon Alan Perry, a lecturer in ecclesiastical polity and former Prolocutor of the Province of Canada, rebuts allegations on clergy and property in her paper. Read the story.
Church stands in solidarity with long-term Haitian partners
by Ali Symons
Anglican Church of Canada Web News
Feb. 05, 2010
Through prayers, giving, friendship and family, Canadian Anglicans are connected to Haiti, a country devastated by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake Jan. 12. Already Canadian Anglicans have donated over $600,000 to the Primate's World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), which is working with the ecumenical ACT Alliance to provide food, water, and shelter to Haiti's most vulnerable. Kenyan churches protest Islamic courts' clause in constitution
Anglican Journal
Feb. 4, 2010
Nairobi: Church leaders in Kenya are rallying their followers against a draft constitution they say favours Muslims and will tear the country apart. "Christians will not relent in holding out this position as it is our national duty," said the Rev. Peter Karanja, general secretary of the National Council of Churches of Kenya, on 1 February. Karanja spoke at a press conference in Nairobi in which the leaders released a statement warning that a clause in the proposed constitution amounts to a ploy to introduce Islamic Sharia law in Kenya. To Haiti, with love
by Debra Fieguth
The Primate's World Relief and Development Fund
Feb. 4, 2010
With a flood of donations coming in to help Haiti in the aftermath of the January 12 earthquake, it’s clear Canadian Anglicans are moved by compassion and are digging deep. “I think it’s absolutely incredible – there’s no limit to the generosity,” says Jill Martin, finance and administration team leader for The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF). From 'A Reading from the Homilies of St. Gregory the Great on the Gospels" Book 2, Homily 36, 11
Therefore let temporal possessions be what you use, eternal things what you desire. Let temporal goods be for use on the way, eternal goods be for when you arrive at your goal. Whatever goes on in this world, let it be as it were glanced at from the side. Let the eyes of our mind gaze straight ahead of us, while they are focused intently on the goal to which we shall come."
