The Nicodemus Project embodies our diocesan vision, to become
‘a diocese of healthy, mission-focused, welcoming and growing parishes
We learned a lot about caring and worth
When we stopped focusing on ourselves and started to focus on others
By Lynn Fletcher
In 2008 the members of our small parish family in Hillsborough and Riverside were preoccupied with our own worrisome concerns — our aging and dying congregation, decreased givers and givings, and the loss of a full time priest to name just a few. Then we were offered an opportunity to stop focusing on ourselves and to start focusing on others, others whose burdens were much greater than our own. Read the story.

A Dinner Invitation
Interfaith Leaders and the G8 – A Call for Action You are invited, with other Anglicans, other Christians and other people of faith to host a dinner (betweennow and June 20) in your community and to invite your Member of Parliament. And when you gather to break bread, you are invited to talk with your interfaith neighbours and your MP about what unites you as people of faith and what message you want to send together to the Prime Minister in anticipation of the G8 and G20 summits. The G8 and G20 summits meet this year in Canada, from June 25-27, 2010 in Huntsville and Toronto, Ontario.
In the week leading up to the G8/G20 summits, from June 21-23, 2010, faith leaders will meet at the University of Winnipeg, with leadership from Archbishop Fred Hiltz, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, to discuss ways to communicate with world leaders and press them for action on the 2010 Interfaith Statement, A Time for Inspired Leadership and Action, released in October 2009.
The statement requests world leaders to:
1. Address poverty;
2. Care for our earth;
3. Invest in peace.
Your involvement in hosting or participating in an interfaith dinner, meal or reception in your community, and the message you send to your Member of Parliament, will be a public act of commitment to the Millennium Development Goals and to the values we deeply hold as Anglicans and Christians. It will show your support for the Primate in his leadership role and will help to pave the way toward stronger interfaith collaboration in the future. If you and others in your community decide to host a dinner, there is a resource kit with guidelines and everything you need to know on-line at www.faithchallengeg8.com. Let us know your plans! It will help us track these events across Canada and help the Primate and General Synod know how many Anglicans are involved. You may send word to Meagan Blais at mblais@national.anglican.ca.

Joy and sadness greet news of Glasspool's ordination consent
Lambeth Palace calls the decision 'regrettable,' says further consultation now needed
by Pat McCaughan and Matthew Davies
Episcopal News Service
Mar. 19, 2010
Episcopalians across the church celebrated the March 17 news that Diocese of Los Angeles Bishop-elect Mary Douglas Glasspool had received the required number of consents from standing committees and bishops with jurisdiction to her ordination and consecration as bishop. Still others lamented the decision and predicted that the news, announced by the presiding bishop's office, would further strain relationships within the Anglican Communion. Glasspool was one of two openly gay candidates on the Los Angeles slate but maintained that her sexual orientation was "not an issue" in the election. She is the second openly gay partnered priest to be elected a bishop in the Episcopal Church. The first was Bishop Gene Robinson of New Hampshire, who was elected in 2003. Read the story.

Why fire trucks are often red
Fire trucks have four wheels and eight firefighters, and four plus eight equals 12. There are 12 inches in a foot. A foot is a ruler. Queen Elizabeth is a ruler. Queen Elizabeth is one of the largest ships on the seven seas. Seas have fish. Fish have fins. The Finns fought the Russians. The Russians are red. Fire trucks are always rushin’. Therefore, fire trucks are often red.
If you think that explanation is nonsense, you should hear the reasons some people have for staying home from church on Sunday morning!
