The Nicodemus Project is a spiritual journey
by Claude Miller
It has been a few months now since the launch of the Nicodemus Project in our diocese. This diocesan-wide initiative carries with it a certain level of hope for a “new day” filled with renewed possibilities for our individual and corporate spiritual life. In these few short months I have witnessed a number of encouraging signs in both individuals and parishes embracing the idea of change leading to transformation. As bishop I understand this spiritual journey (change and growth in Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit) as a process. It begins with an individual’s desire for a deeper relationship with God, and leads to a community (parish) transformation — a transformation that emphasizes the mission that God is calling us to
embrace for the sake of God’s kingdom on earth. Read the story.

Christians call for protest against Israeli travel permits for Easter
by Judith Sudilovsky
Ecumenical News International
Mar. 29, 2010
Holy Land Christians are calling on their religious leaders to protest against the travel permit system imposed by Israel during Easter celebrations. The situation is complicated in 2010 by the overlapping of Easter with the Jewish feast of the Passover. "Any system which assigns entry permits to Easter celebrations necessarily denies the rest of the faithful their rights of participation in these religious events," they wrote in a letter that has been circulated during the month of March. Understanding Easter
"Why do we celebrate Easter?" an earnest Sunday school teacher asked his class.
"The Easter bunny," shouted one.
"Easter eggs," shouted another.
"Well, those are Easter traditions and symbols," said the teacher, "but there is a special reason we celebrate Easter and it has nothing to do with bunnies, candy or new clothes. Do you know what happened at the very first Easter?"
A little girl tentatively raised her hand and said, "Jesus came out of the tomb."
"That's right," shouted the teacher."Jesus arose from the tomb, and why is that important to us?"
An excited little boy answered: "Because if he sees his shadow he goes back in and it's winter for six more weeks."
