by Ana Watts
The Anglican family of the Diocese of Fredericton gathered at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Fredericton on Friday evening, May 7, in celebration and thanksgiving for the election of our Bishop Claude Miller as Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of Canada. The ballroom was crowded with tables, the food and company delightful, the speakers thoughtful as well as light-hearted, the music sublime and the Companion Diocese of Ho was on the bishop's heart.  Read the story.

Congregational Growth and Development Fund
(A working title)

In response to decisions of Diocesan Synod in 2009, the Parish Support and Development Team is working toward the initiation of a diocesan fund similar to the "Builders For Christ Fund" created by Bishop Edward Salmon in the Diocese of South Carolina. The fund is intended to encourage parishes, groups of parishes, deaneries or archdeaconries to undertake innovative, risk-taking projects that will lead to spiritual/numerical/financial growth for the making of disciples. The fund will be distributed as grants to groups with plans which meet this criteria. The planning team has identified sound systems, musical instruments, puppet ministry materials, youth pastors, vehicles, Christian education materials, lunch programs for seniors/children, seniors clubs and family events as likely candidates for support, but it wants further input. Are there projects which your parish or a group of parishes might seek to develop if funding were available? Grants will range from a few hundred dollars to several thousands depending upon the response in the diocese. If you have ideas you might wish to see funded in your area please contact Archdeacon David Edwards <david.edwards at anglican.nb.ca>.

Prayer for Clergy College 2010

Prayer for the Speakers of the Clergy College
God the giver of wisdom, we give you thanksgiving and praise for the gift of knowledge. Give us minds to accept wisdom and hearts to live in wisdom.
We pray for your traveling mercies as our speakers travel to Fredericton for our Clergy College. We pray that the teachings shared by Eric Beresford, Gary Thorne and Brian Walsh in the coming clergy college will bring profound and living wisdom to all of our minds and hearts.
We ask your blessing upon our speakers as they carry on their professions as sharers of wisdom. May the seeds they plant grow to maturity in ways they could never imagine.

In her first visit to Canada this week, the new bishop of the Episcopal diocese of Cuba, Griselda Delgado del Carpio, said being appointed in February came as “a surprise from God.” Bishop Delgado was appointed by the Metropolitan Council of Cuba after two special electoral synods held last year failed to elect a successor to Bishop Miguel Tamayo Zaldivar, who is retiring as interim bishop. A 16-year-old PK (preacher's kid) got his learner's permit and asked his father if they could discuss the use of the car. His father took him to his study and said, "I'll make a deal with you. You bring your grades up, study your Bible a little and get your hair cut, then we'll talk about it."

After about a month the boy came back and again asked his father if they could discuss use of the car. They again went to the father's study where his father said, "Son, I'm very proud of you. You have brought your grades up and you've studied your Bible diligently, but you haven't cut your hair!"

The young man waited a moment and replied, "You know Dad, I've been thinking about that. Samson had long hair, Moses had long hair, Noah had long hair, and even Jesus had long hair …" But before he could finish his father jumped in.

"Yes, and they WALKED every where they went!"
