Diocesan ACW supports Buy-A-Net, Save-A-Life

By Ana Watts

Buy-A-Net, Save-A-Life — that’s Debra Lefebvre’s rallying cry, and it is the message she brought to the Diocesan ACW annual meeting in St. Andrews in early May. A nurse, mother and now executive director of the Buy-A-Net Malaria Prevention Group, Canada’s first campaign aimed at malaria prevention, Debra is inspired by the women and children of Africa. “The struggle of one must be the struggle of all,” she told the full house at All Saint’s. Prayer for Clergy College 2010

Prayer for Availability and ability to attend Diocesan Clergy College
O Lord Jesu Christ, who in thy boundless compassion for all humanity felt compassion for them, because they were weary and worn out, like sheep without a shepherd; And dost set thy pastors to tend, feed and care for thy flock and to seek out the lost; as thou didst withdraw to quiet places to commune with thy Father and to pray with and teach thy holy Apostles; grant to the pastors of thy Church in this Diocese respite from their daily burden, the care of the churches, and a hearty desire to come apart, to be refreshed and grow in the knowledge and love of thee our Saviour and one another; who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. AMEN.

Ecumenism is beacon of hope for the churches
World Council of Churches
May 17, 2010
Hope and tenacity are essential for the ecumenical movement stated the general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit at the Second Ecumenical Kirchentag which took place in Munich, Germany, from 12-16 May. "Despite all the paradoxes and contradictions that we experience with them, the ecumenical movement and the World Council of Churches are bearers of hope for many churches and people in minority situations, for churches involved in struggles for liberation, for churches who are in disagreement with one another," said Tveit at a panel discussion "Ecumenism: provocative and hope-inspiring" on Friday 14 May. Interfaith Bible study focuses on God's compassion
World Council of Churches
May 16, 2010
Muslims, Christians and people of other faiths should witness together to God's compassion in a world where too many suffer destitution and injustice, a Muslim scholar and a Christian leader agreed during an interfaith Bible study held at a 12-16 May German church convention (Kirchentag) in Munich. Ultimately, it is “no advantage for Jews to be Jews, Christians to be Christians, and Muslims to be Muslims”, said Muslim scholar Dr Ataullah Siddiqui. What really matters, Siddiqui argued, is the “human concern” for “the poor and the needy”. For the Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches, “God is compassionate” and therefore asks people “to be compassionate”. All human beings have a common calling “to live according to God's will in this land.” Read the story.
