Clergy Spouses build community

By Eva Morton

Clergy spouses from throughout the diocese met at Villa Madonna in Rothesay April 20 – 22 for our annual retreat and to focus on community. We enjoyed three community building sessions with Judith Davids of St. Stephen’s University, a presentation by Heather Miller and the Rev. Jasmine Chandra on ways to help our Companion Diocese community in Ho, and time with Archbishop Claude Miller to discuss our own diocesan community.  Read the story.

Prayer for Clergy College 2010

Prayer for Availability and ability to attend Diocesan Clergy College
O Lord Jesu Christ, who in thy boundless compassion for all humanity felt compassion for them, because they were weary and worn out, like sheep without a shepherd; And dost set thy pastors to tend, feed and care for thy flock and to seek out the lost; as thou didst withdraw to quiet places to commune with thy Father and to pray with and teach thy holy Apostles; grant to the pastors of thy Church in this Diocese respite from their daily burden, the care of the churches, and a hearty desire to come apart, to be refreshed and grow in the knowledge and love of thee our Saviour and one another; who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. AMEN.

Four Stages of Emergency Response
May 20, 2010
by Simon Chambers
Whenever a disaster occurs, most people’s first reaction is to want to help. One doesn’t have to look far to find many examples of humanitarian relief efforts undertaken by the Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund. In fact, PWRDF was founded in response to a disaster which took place in Springhill, NS in 1958. Since that time, Anglicans in Canada have responded generously to disasters around the world- most particularly the 2004 Tsunami and the 2010 Haitian earthquake. Read the story.

Punishment without the requisite crime
Guest opinion
by Michael Thompson
Anglican Journal
May 17, 2010
Michael Thompson is the Rector of St. Jude’s Church, Oakville, in the diocese of Niagara
In the work that bears his name, Gilbert and Sullivan’s wonderfully imagined Mikado purports “To let the punishment fit the crime, the punishment fit the crime.” In their guest opinion column in the Anglican Journal (May 2010, p. 5), Catherine Sider-Hamilton and Dean Mercer have, on the other hand, already decided the punishment– “a second-tier status in the larger Anglican Communion.” It remains only to conjure up the requisite crime.
